Australian professional cycling team Orica Green EDGE has ruled out the possibility that it is in the hunt for the signature of British rider Mark Cavendish if he does decide to leave Team SKY at the end of the current season.

The rookie team in the World Tour had been one of two teams that had been linked with vying for the services of Cavendish after his team mate for Great Britain in the London Olympic Games and Team Sky Bradley Wiggins stated that he would understand if Cavendish chose to leave Team SKY to fulfill his own ambitions.

Wiggins had stated that the Green Jersey ambitions of Mark Cavendish and the British team’s goals for the General Classification in the Grand Tours create a conflict of interests and don’t really fit in together. And speaking about the possibility of Cavendish joining the team, Shayne Bannan, the manager of the Orica Green EDGE team stated that although he doesn’t rule making an attempt to sign him in the future, it would surely not be for next season.

Bannan stated that he can assure the media and the people concerned that neither he nor any one from his team have entered into any contractual negotiations with Cavendish. He went on to add that it doesn’t mean they will not talk to him about taking a place in the team in the future, but it surely will not be for the next season.

The manager of the Orica Green EDGE team further commented that they have a brilliant roster at the moment, the team is only thinking about backing the current riders and giving them the opportunity to shine. And that leaves Mark Cavendish with very few options at his disposal when it comes to the new season and leaving Team SKY.
